It may be their landscape or scenery, they may elicit memories of growing up, or they may be where we envision growing old. They could be somewhere we visited just once and never forgot. Whatever the feeling, wherever the location, the sense of place is powerful. At Theme Two, it's that connection on which we draw to create artistic lake, island, and park maps.

Two decades ago, the National Council for Geographic Education created five themes to be used as guidelines for teaching geography. We find the second theme particularly fitting: place.
